Must visit places in Las Palmas
Don’t miss out on visiting …
Poema del Mar Aquarium
It’s a must-see, even if it is a little expensive. The aquarium is considered one of the most spectacular in Europe and showcases the fascinating underwater world in three themed worlds. (15 min walk, near Santa Catalina square)
El Confital nature reserve and beach
El Confital is a nature reserve on the La Isleta peninsula and, in a sense, an extension of Las Canteras beach. It is perfect for short hikes with views over the bay of Las Palmas and is an excellent spot for surfing, windsurfing, and bodyboarding, with waves up to 3 meters high for advanced surfers. (20 min walk from the apartment)
Old town of Las Palmas (Vegueta and Triana)
The historic center of Las Palmas, Vegueta, is located in the southern part of the city. Here, the colonial history of Gran Canaria can still be experienced, with beautiful squares and buildings that look back on five centuries of history. A walk through Vegueta is like a little expedition into the colonial past of the Spanish Empire. Highlights include the old market hall, the Casa de Colón museum (Columbus House), the large dogs in the Plaza Mayor (from which the island got its name) and, of course, the cathedral (be sure to climb the tower > Mirador Santa Ana). The interior of the cathedral can only be visited via the affiliated Museo Diocesano de Arte Sacro. Every Thursday evening is tapas night in Vegueta, and all bars and restaurants, e.g., on Calle Pelota and Calle Mendizábal, offer drinks and delicious tapas specialties. (20 min bus drive with line 1 and 12 to Parque San Telmo, respectively Teatro)
Triana
Between Parque San Telmo (a beautiful square with large trees and a lovely Art Nouveau bar) and Vegueta lies the Triana district with its main shopping street, Calle Triana, where all the well-known fashion brands are represented, as well as several exclusive boutiques and restaurants in the adjacent streets.
Canario Botanical Garden in Tafira Baja
The Botanical Garden is a paradise for admirers of exotic trees, colorful flowers, and the large family of cacti. It is located on the outskirts of Las Palmas and can be reached by the Global Bus L303/L311 (blue bus) or by car. The upper entrance can be reached via the GC-110 (Tafira Baja) and the lower main entrance via the GC-310. (25 min bus drive from San Telmo bus station)
