GC is not for couch potatoes
Beach volleyball and beach tennis
are very popular in GC and Las Canteras (Playa Grande). The beach is ideal for playing a match with friends, and the La Barra Beach Volley Club is a great place to learn these sports in small groups. Las Alcaravaneras beach is another hotspot for beach volleyball fans in Las Palmas.
The best places for surfing and bodyboarding
are El Confital beach (for experts only) and Las Canteras beach (La Cicer) near the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium. The University Surf School and Oceanside are two surf schools where you can also rent surfboards and equipment.
Windsurfing and kitesurfing
Pozo Izquierdo is a world-famous spot for windsurfing and kitesurfing and is only a 30-minute drive from Las Palmas.
Jogging
is another very popular sport in Las Palmas. For example, you can run from the apartment along the promenade towards El Confital. If you are interested in long-distance running, you can run along the harbor promenade (and the highway) south to San Cristóbal (10 km).
Hiking
For all nature lovers, hiking is the ultimate activity in Gran Canaria. There are numerous short and long hiking trails all over the island.
